Uncovering inclusivity gaps in design pedagogy through the digital design marginalization framework

چکیده
Designers play a key role in the design of inclusive and socially conscious interfaces. Thus, it is imperative for designers to be thoughtful ethical social implications design. However, gaps foundational training that receive (e.g., as university students) can negatively impact their ability consider practice. This result consequences such digital marginalization, which, defined by Digital Design Marginalization (DDM) framework, “pushing away”, whether intentional or not, group users from online service system, where exclusion has additional, indirect, long-lasting on particular user group. contribute, even unintentionally, marginalization through practices choices they make. We argue our educators includes ensuring not only pedagogy inclusive, but we train now are prepared conduct future practice manner all users. Pedagogy-driven design of digital learning ecosystems
In most cases, the traditional Web-based learning management systems (e.g. Moodle, Blackboard) have been designed without any built-in support for a preferred pedagogical model or approach. The proponents of such systems have claimed that this kind of inherent "pedagogical neutrality" is a desirable characteristic for a LMS, as it allows teachers to implement various pedagogical approaches. Thi...
متن کاملBetween design and digital: bridging the gaps in architectural education
Developing technologies, such as computational design and digital fabrication, are transforming the design and construction of contemporary architecture. Today, architecture schools are tasked with introducing digital technologies as they are changing, creating an opportunity to develop innovative curricula and democratize access to these skills. However, the understanding of how to teach digit...
متن کاملMultimodality through Physical Digital Design
This paper aims to deliver a better understanding of the relationship between the physical and virtual, two dimensional and three dimensional representations of form that are employed in the critical early stages of design. It presents findings from observations of practice undertaken to provide an initial dataset on how designers move between these representations, and of the kind and quantity...
متن کاملParallelism through Digital Circuit Design
Two ways to exploit chips with a very large number of transistors are multicore processors and programmable logic chips. Some data parallel algorithms can be executed efficiently on ordinary parallel computers, including multicores. A class of data parallel algorithms is identified which have characteristics that make implementation on multiprocessors inefficient, but they are well suited for d...
متن کاملUncovering Architectural Design Decisions
Over the past three decades, considerable effort has been devoted to the study of software architecture. A major portion of this effort has focused on the originally proposed view of four “C”s—components, connectors, configurations, and constraints—that are the building blocks of a system’s architecture. Despite being simple and appealing, this view has proven to be incomplete and has required ...
